Energy-and-capacity markets project gets green-lighted.
Capacity markets are becoming more relevant with increasing amounts of intermittent generation. More flexible resources will be needed to offset intermittency and to meet peak demand. A question that arises is how to finance flexible plant that would be idle most of the time. To look at issues surrounding energy-and-capacity markets, Market Design has started the project A raw model for a north European capacity market. The project will be carried out by Gert Brunekreeft from the International University in Bremen, Germany, Michiel de Nooij from SEO Economic Research in Holland,
Niclas Damsgaard from Pöyry in Sweden and Peter Fritz from Sweco also in Sweden.
